Cuil

Today I decided to checkout the new search engine Cuil. All over the intra-webs you can read about this cool new Cuil and how its going to become the next big thing online. I tried it out and we didn’t really agree on some things. It was great at bringing back very specific stuff, but hell if I am going to Walmart.com I don’t really need a search engine for that do I? Go to Cuil.com and search for Walmart. OMG! Look at that new technology bringing back Walmart as the first listing. Thats what we expect it to do.

What if I am looking for something more vague? What if I need to find a pair of restaurant-approved shoes for a new job at Hooters or something? Lets try it out.
Go to Google.com and search for restaurant approved shoes
What did Google find for you? What you will find first is a link to a product sold by Wal-Mart. I can imagine that if in fact I was looking, I could click the link review the price then head down the road a few miles..deal done. Thanks Google. You gave me something real, something I needed to get to. Sweet.

Now go to Cuil and do the same search for restaurant approved shoes
WTF? Do you see links to any shoes at all? NO!
Do the page descriptions even match the titles?

My question to the wise:
Is Cuil.com a Google joke? Is is something like the old Google Pigeon Rank page?
Or is Cuil just a piece of crap?
